There are many different guidelines for how often to publish content and how often that content should be a “sales” post.
But how do you know what to publish? Will it be too “salesy”, or not enough? And what is a “sales” post anyway?
Sales posts are typically trying to get someone who is at the bottom of the sales funnel to buy now. However, most people reading posts are closer to the top of the funnel. Meaning your offering has piqued their interest, but they are not ready to buy, at least not yet.
Do you know who you are targeting with your posts? Potential clients, loyal clients, or the unknown masses? Are you crafting the best posts for the correct intended audience?
It is time to approach your content in a new way. Ditch the guidelines and post content your intended audience would like to read and engage with.
How do you know what to post
- Spend some time to understand who your audience is for each platform you post on.
- Understand the mix of your audience (potential clients, active clients, or the unknown masses)
- Evaluate your goals to decide if the mix should be changed (if you are focused on growing new clients but most of your readers are active clients).
- Decide what type of messaging would most engage your intended audience by reaching out to people who ARE your target audience, and ask them what they would like to see from your posts.
If your loyal clients want to see your new products, styles, and sales as soon as they happen, and you are targeting active clients, then do that! That is what your clients want.
If brand new clients find the most value in free insight into your expertise without an obvious sales pitch, and you are trying to reach potential clients, then do that!
You are the expert in your field and your new and loyal clients are the experts in knowing what posts they want to consume. Reach out to them and ask how you can provide them with better content. At the end of the day, we are here to serve our clients, so let’s give them what they want.
Do you agree? What guidelines do you follow when posting content? I would love to hear, comment below.
